I was one of the founders of Glossop BookFest, I tell traditional Peak District Folktales at gigs and storytelling gatherings, I teach creative writing, and I'm secretary of Glossopdale's writing group, Write from the Heart.
MARK P. HENDERSON
After a career in medicine and university teaching, I retired to North Derbyshire in 2002 and started to write fiction, edit manuscripts, teach creative writing, and collect and tell Peak District folktales. My publications, through five different publishing houses, comprise an anthology of short stories (Rope Trick, 2008), a novel (Perilaus, 2009), a children’s story (Fenella and the Magic Mirror, 2009), a study of the evolution of a local legend (Murders in the Winnats Pass, 2010), a collection of 62 traditional stories (Folktales of the Peak District, 2011), a collection of puns in verse and prose (Cruel and Unusual PunNishments, 2016), a one-act play (Forget it, it’s History, 2017), four more novels (National Cake Day in Ruritania, 2018; The Engklimastat, 2019; Perilaus II, 2021; Con, 2022), a novelette (The Definitive Biography of St Arborius of Glossopdale and his Thin Dog, 2019), and a novella (The Cat of Doom, 2020). A novel about Glossopdale’s real sixteenth century folk hero, Black Harry, has also been accepted for publication is scheduled for release in March 2023. My compilation of folktale films recorded in situ in collaboration with Tim Knebel of “Peak in the Past” and his colleagues (http://www.peakinthepast.co.uk; scroll down to “Folktales”), is available for free download and we hope to complete the set early in 2023.

About my work
I'm, Nicola, I started writing and illustrating a series s of children’s books at the age of 13. I then re visited them in my 30s. I have now written, illustrated and published 7 books in the series. I sell illustrations on gifts and products. My artwork covers a variety of styles and a vast range of topics. I particularly like to illustrate animals, wildlife, natu
re, films, TV and places as well as quite a few humorous ones. Some of my illustrations are very detailed and realistic whilst others are fun and cartoon like. During lockdown I started a series of funny single panel comics following Mitch the cat and his long-suffering owner Marge.
I am also one of the Glossop Bookfest Team
